Watch Attempted Murder Suspect Steal Fla. Deputy's Cruiser

Feb. 13, 2025
A man accused of severely beating and strangling his ex-girlfriend allegedly attacked a Monroe County Sheriff's Office sergeant in Key Largo before stealing his cruiser and carjacking an SUV.

An attempted murder suspect stole a Florida deputy's cruiser late last year before carjacking an SUV and crashing the vehicle.

The incident happened Dec. 22 when a Monroe County Sheriff's Office sergeant was trying to apprehend Armando Lopez in Key Largo after he allegedly tried to kill his ex-girlfriend, WPLG-TV reports. Lopez is accused of severely beating and strangling the woman and stuffing her mouth with a rag soaked with a household cleaner.

When the sergeant reached the scene, Lopez attacked the deputy and tried to take his gun and Taser. The suspect then jumped inside the sergeant's cruiser and sped away.

“He just stole my patrol car!” the sergeant told dispatchers in body camera video.

A pursuit ensued, and Lopez was seen in dashboard camera footage driving recklessly. With the cruiser's lights flashing, he eventually pulled over a woman in an SUV outside a sandal store.

“Get out,” a shirtless Lopez told the woman in the SUV.

The chase continued after Lopez took off in the SUV. It ended when he crashed in the SUV.

Lopez was arrested, and he is being held without bond.
